With company, then without
Somewhere south of Cochrane, a Chilean couple joined me. Together, we walked about four hours on the least transited part of the road while eating a never-ending supply of nalca.
“It’s nice to have company,” I told them. “Usually, I’m out here by myself and sometimes, when I get very, very tired, I start seeing things that aren’t there and hearing voices. Now that you’re here, you can tell me if those things are real or not.”
Not long after, they stopped walking with me. The couple said they wanted to sit and wait for a lift.
Understandable. It was the last time I told anyone about my “walker’s fatigue.”
